The Biography of Gumbo, Our Recipe

First off, I need to mention that the photograph to the left, c'est moi.  However, it was taken when I was 16 years old. I wanted to use it as a press photo because I was probably the same age, give or take a few years, that my grandmother was when she took the photograph that ultimately became our company logo. I call the concept, "Generations at 16." Now, back to "The Biography of Gumbo."

    Carla Moss
    Founder and CEO
    (aka Writer, Director, Producer,
Creative Director, and Web Video Consultant)

Carla is the product of the blending cultures of Cajuns and Creoles in Louisiana. The descendant of Euphemie Préjean, her grandmother, after whom her company's name is inspired.  Perhaps unknowingly, Carla embodies the spirit of Southern Louisiana's creole and cajun legacy--a cultural legacy with origins that began in France and Acadia, Canada (now known as Nova Scotia).  Ultimately, her cultural origins grew roots in Louisiana as her own family tree absorbed varying bloodline adaptations in the bayous, cities and towns of Southern Louisiana's French parishes. And that's just her father's side of the family. Her mother, also from Louisiana, provided her with a predestined taste for greens (mustard, turnip or collard), and the genes of other cultures found in Louisiana's Northern hemisphere.  Eventually, both of her parents moved out West to California, where they met.  They married, had two daughters, and the rest is history-in-the-making.  It's a 'North' and 'South' meets 'West' story, ce n'est pas?

Carla Moss is the Founder and CEO of Eufemmé Films, LLC, an emerging new media film and video production company.  Carla transforms ideas into compelling video content for media, publishing, technology, and lifestyle brands.   With a diverse team of production resources all across the country and around the globe, Eufemmé Films, LLC works with brands everywhere.  Most recently, Carla wrote, directed and produced a short film entitled "Epicureous", a web series pilot.

Previously, Carla co-founded The iMuse Company, an independent start-up film company in the San Francisco Bay Area, with offices in Los Angeles. As its COO, Carla managed the operations of the company, including its legal affairs, human resources, finance and marketing areas. Carla was also instrumental in the company’s 40+ client film projects in development. Upon its inception in 2000, The iMuse Company began to form strategic alliances and partnerships with the entities that actually fund and distribute films. In doing so, The iMuse Company attracted the interest of many resources for several of its film projects. While The iMuse Company has ceased operation, it provided an invaluable training ground for Carla to launch Eufemmé Films, LLC.

Carla was also a producer of online videos for TurnHere Internet Video, where she developed stories and produced online video content for clients such as Disney Interactive Media Group, Discovery Channel, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Gourmet Magazine, Reed Business Information, PR Newswire, D.R. Horton, and many others. These stories were captured on video by a network of talented filmmakers across the country and around the globe.

Carla has worked in various industries, including online media, high-tech, executive recruiting, banking, public relations and law.  Through her experience working in these industries with chief executives, Carla gained a vast knowledge of the anatomy of a corporation.  The result--a gumbo of skills Carla incorporates into her work in film and video and the business of filmmaking and online media.

Carla attended the San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking's Intensive Fiction Filmmaking Workshop.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with an emphasis in International Relations from San Francisco State University. For one year, Carla studied law at the University of San Francisco School of Law and received a Moot Court Award for " Best Oral Argument" in the law school's 1991 Moot Court Competition. Carla is a member of several film industry associations.
