Some Optimism for the Future of Indie Filmmaking - Ted Hope on How The New Truly Free Filmmaking Community Will Rise From Indie's Ashes

Awhile back, a 'debbie-downer' speech by Mark Gill permeated the indie film community about the demise of the specialty divisions of major studios, and the impact it would have on the independent film community. Today, I found this 'anti-doomsday' speech given by Ted Hope, an encouraging message, 'don't believe the hype', with a dash of 'let's get real'.

"The proclamations of Indie Film's demise are grossly exaggerated. How can there be a "Death Of Indie" when Indie -- real Indie, True Indie -- has yet to even live?" said Ted Hope

    Well said Ted.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ted Hope last week at an event in Berkeley, CA, "The Conversation", where he was one of the speakers. Ted continues to herald the day of true indie film and is quite inspirational--a passionate and intelligent speaker on this topic. We huddled with a couple other conference participants after his presentation and continued the conversation (something I rarely do at these types of events), but he's infectious--what can I say. If you get the opportunity to hear him speak, you should.
